The Circle of Life is bittersweet!!!

Today I got the bad news that a family friend's new granddaughter, born last week, has some sort of infection that spread through her intestines and colon. The doctor's tried to do surgery today but the infection had spread too much and there wasn't anything they could do. Kim happened to be at the hospital today and saw Bobbie, the grandma of this baby girl, Ainsley. Bobbie told Kim she was there to say goodbye!!! How absolutely horrible, I can't even imagine. I then got the email awhile ago that Ainsley passed away this afternoon.

On a much happier note, Ella Rose is here!!! She and Nikki are doing really well. Nikki said this labor was much easier than it was with Dara. Ella is 7lbs 7oz and 20 inches long. Dara seemed happy to meet Ella...we'll see how that goes in the next few days. Ella is very pretty...and apparently likes to be bounced with the butt pat (you mom's know what I'm talking about). She doesn't have a lot of hair, but she's got plenty of time for that to fill in. Here's the happy family:

Ironic story... Jenny came to see Nikki at the hospital. Jenny works with Nikki and Kim and is pregnant as well....due anytime actually. She left a few minutes after I got there. However, before I had left the hospital tonight, she texted Kim that she was on her way back to the hospital. She was having contractions and they were 5 minutes apart. Apparently her first delivery when she had her daughter happened in about 2 hours....so her son, Aidan, might share the same birthday as Ella. That would be pretty cool!

What a day! It is exciting to celebrate new life.....but heartbreaking to know that this very same day has brought tragedy to family friends. If I listen to my head I know that God has a plan for all of us....and there was a reason that Ainsley's life was so brief and also that we may never know the reason. But if I listen to my heart, it is all so unfair and I want to know WHY things are so unfair. If nothing else, it is a reminder that life is precious...and short. So I squeezed Zander a little tighter tonight.....and prayed I never have to let go.....
