Zander - there are many songs I've sung to you over the past 20+ months.
There are the old standards, for ex:
· Rock-A-Bye Baby (which was changed to Rock-A-Bye Zander)
· Jesus Loves Me (Jesus Loves Zander)
· You Are My Sunshine (Zander is My Sunshine)
(hey, you really liked to hear your name)

Then as you grew bigger:
· The Wheels On the Bus
· Old MacDonald (which I changed to Old Man Zander)
· This Old Man

Now as you get even bigger, you want more of a variety. You protest until we get to a song you like, so Grandma and I are running out of songs.
I'm just not that good of thinking on the fly.....so we have resorted to singing Christmas songs, Take Me Out To The Ballgame, some of U2's ballads etc. (Just get used to hearing U2, Mommy loves Bono) Grandma probably sings Statler Brothers songs to you, I don't know, I'm just sayin....
But, a couple of months ago, I remembered a lullaby I learned in grade school. I can't remember WHY I learned a lullaby in grade school, so I don't have a really awesome backstory to tell you.
However, I can tell you that you like this song. (Mommy likes it too) Here it is in case I should ever forget the words again.
(hopefully, I'll remember the tune when you ask me about it)
Oh, Senor Don Gato was a cat
On a high red roof Don Gato sat
He went there to read a letter
(meow meow meow)
Where the reading light was better
(meow meow meow)
Twas a love note for Don Gato
"I adore you" wrote the lady cat
Who was fluffy, white and nice and fat
Oh , there was no sweeter kitty
(meow meow meow)
In the country or the city
(meow meow meow)
And she said she'd wed Don Gato
Oh, Don Gato jumped so happily
He fell off the roof and broke his knee
Broke his ribs and all his whiskers
(meow meow meow)
And his little solar plexus
(meow meow meow)
"Ay, Caramba" cried Don Gato
All the doctors all came on the run
Just to see if something could be done
And they held a consultation
(meow meow meow)
About how to save their patient
(meow meow meow)
How to save Senor Don Gato
But in spite of everything they tried
Poor Senor Don Gato up and died
Oh, it wasn't very merry
(meow meow meow)
Going to the cemetery
(meow meow meow)
For the ending of Don Gato
As the funeral passed the market square
Such a smell of fish was in the air
And the crowd became elated
(meow meow meow)
He became reincarnated
(meow meow meow)
He came back to life - Don Gato
Yeah, its not your typical "baby rocking in a tree" lullaby.....
but at least it has happy ending.
***Now I noticed that this song is 'googleable'...wish I would have thought of that before I typed it all out. I did seem to change the last verse....I couldn't remember that verse fully when I remembered the song so I made it up....and I think I like my verse better***

Awh...how sweet. Way to capture the memory for Captain Zander Pants. I remember right after I had Jaxen, I wore out the song Silent Night. I definitely sang every Christmas song I knew. (I would even sing Christmas songs in the heat of the summer). A Moms gotta do, what a Moms gotta do!
I still sing those first three songs to both my boys. My 20-month old always asks for "Sunshine".
And Don Gato is one of my all-time favorite children's songs. Thanks for posting the lyrics. I had forgotten the last two verses!
Never heard that song, but it sounds cute!
I have never heard of this song before. I like all the meowing!
This is really awesome; first that you are singing these songs to your son (it will make him a strong reader when the time comes, believe it or not), but second that you remembered this song. Why not tape yourself singing it to him?
P.S. Thanks for popping in today, Sista!
Okay, there was a teacher at my elementary school (Yerba Buena) maned Mr. Edmond and he would play the guitar and sing this! You just took me down memory lane!
Found you through Mrs. R. What a cute blog!
And something I've sung to my son since he was born (or close to it) is Somewhere Over the Rainbow. He likes the highs and lows of my voice throughout.
But I loved your comment on Mrs. R's post today.
Where have I been? I have never heard that song, and it is so cute!
My boys loved the 1,2 buckle my shoe and itsy bitsy spider. Now they just drool over Hannah Montana :p
