We were overdue for this day! I think Zander was pretty much at a point where it wasn't going to be so difficult. That being said, I waited until Labor Day weekend so I could stick around home with him for 3 days and get him through the toughest days!
Friday morning he asked Grandma for a bottle so he got one, because at that point, we hadn't taken them away yet. However, Friday evening he never asked for a bottle before we went to bed. Sweet! Good start!
Saturday morning I gathered up all of his bottles. One by one, as Zander stood there and watched me, I picked up a bottle and said "Say bye bye." and then I dropped it in a bag. He didn't say 'bye bye', but he didn't protest either.
Once all of the bottles were in the bag, I tied it shut and took it outside and threw it in the trash can. (I retrieved the bag later when he wasn't looking so I could give the bottles to cousin Ella".
Later on he asked for a "bottle". I told him that we didn't have bottles anymore, "remember, we threw them away?". So, then he said, "juice". Yep, that I can handle.
Sunday, he threw a fit for a bottle. I had bought him a little John Deere cup at the Dollar Store, and that was a good diversion for a little while.
(What do you think of his hair? He styled it himself - with ice cream. It makes for a very 'stiff' mousse.)
He did have a couple of meltdowns, mostly at night when he was very tired. And, as of yet, I can't get him to drink milk out of a sippy cup. But, he hasn't had a bottle since Friday morning.....there is no turning back.

Yeah for Zander! Good for you Mom!
WAY TO GO, MOMMA!! I'll give Z baby props for dissing the bottle, but if I lived by you I'd take you to the spa because I know how scary that was. Seriously.
Oh wow - that's a BIG step! Good job Mommy! Way to stick with it and ... I might have to look into this "ice-cream-as-mouse" idea...
Way to go. What a Supermommy you are.
And gee I wonder if Icecream mouse will give my hair the lift it needs? Hmmmm
That's awesome GOOD JOB!! Both of you :)
Yay Z!! Ok...and you too!
Hmmm, after I took the bottle away from my son, he wouldn't drink milk out of a sippy either. I guess it just isn't the same!
With both of my girls, as soon as they had their 1 yr check-up and the doc said they could start drinking whole milk, I stopped the bottles. I only gave them milk in sippy cups. But neither one took a bottle to go to sleep, so it was pretty easy getting them off bottles.
Now, taking away the pacifier... that's a whole other story!!!
Good for you! I'm terrible about taking the bottle away--I wait way too long! He'll be used to the cup in no time!!
hate to know what he'll use for hairspray! it is a good look thou...
good job without the bottles and no Nanny 911 hang it in a tree and expect a present crap..
You have to email me your address.
We're glad the bottle battle has gone smoothly! It sounds like you have done it the right way and he's adjusting well.
And ice cream as a hair-styling product? It's all the rage these days. hehe
Good for you two!!!! hang in there!!!
Just came back to tell you I've got a little something for you @ my blog... come by sometime and get it :)
No turning back is the key. You have now set the precedent... good for you mama!
I went and voted for Z.. to cute!
Yaaay! Congratulations to you and big Z. Those pictures are TOO cute. If you let me have that little cutie for a month or two I promise not to give him a bottle. :)
Hey, I am new to your blog.
Just wanted to comment Z is a doll!!!
Congrats.

Just dig in. This too shall pass:-)
I took Porgie's bottles away at 15 months, and she couldn't have cared less. She never (not even once) asked for a bottle. I am skipping bottles completely with Izzy. When he is about 15 months, we are going straight to the cup.
Good for you, and GREAT for Mr. Z! I remember giving up the bottle as one of the Major Milestones in my kiddos' lives. Hang in there--before you know it, he won't remember what a bottle is anymore!
Nice job Mamma! Look out a few more big steps and he will be headed to Jr High....sniff. Then you will want me to watch him for ya....
Good for you! I got rid of the binkies one month and the bottles the next. Both were an agonizing three days but we all lived. Then it was another three days getting over the sippy cups!
Ohhh, he's growing up! I never noticed the dimples before...I tend to be clueless or blurry eyed late at night when I am reading! So, so cute.
Jackson also has his own secret mousse recipe...syrup...Yum!
Great job, momma and Z! Little Miss has been off a daytime bottle since she was about 14 months, but she would NOT give up the nighttime bottle until early this summer. It was a rough couple of days, but we managed and by the 3rd day, it was old news. Hope it continues to go well!
BY the way, love the cup!!
He looks so sweet with that cup! Oh, and I love that hairstyle!
