My baby did not just turn 2! (yes, he did)
He is not growing up so quickly right before my very eyes!!! (yes, he is)
And he is certainly not potty training himself (well, he might be)
I have not started potty training him...I don't want to. Diapers are expensive and its a pain in the butt to change his diaper because he fights me on it....buts it's the last remaining task of his babyhood!!!
Plus, I dread the accidents when we're out and about.....or the rush to find a bathroom in a public place because he realized at the last second he has to go......NOW!
(sigh)
But, last weekend when his bio-father was in town he yanked off his diaper.
Bio-father: "Do you have to go potty?"
Z: "Okay"
So, we sat him on the toilet and he went. Then of course he had to wipe himself, flush the toilet and wash his hands. I will teach this child cleaniness if nothing else, mark my words!!!
Then later on that evening, he ran into his room where we were sitting was naked again!!!
Me: "Do you have to go potty?"
Z: "Okay."
And he did....and then wipe, flush, clean.
He has been doing this a couple of times a day.
Also, he came up to me last night and said "I poot".
Me: "Did you poop?"
Z: "Okay."
"Okay" is his new "affirmative word"....he's very manipulative with it too. For example:
Z: "outside"
Me"Did you say outside?"
Z: "Okay"
Me: "No, I didn't ask you if you 'wanted to go' outside, I asked if you 'said' outside."
Z: "Okay." (looking at me like "you better take me outside, lady"
Anywhoo....so, I'm not going to rush Z with potty training. He's getting used to the toilet...that's good.
I am going to buy one of those little seats to put over my toilet seat though. He has his own little potty chair, but if he's not afraid of using the big toilet, then that saves me from having to clean his little toilet...right?
Am I wrong here?
Anybody want to give me some good advice?

You are blessed that Zander is jumping right in. I had the hardest time potty training my boy.
A suggestion I often share is NOT to use Pull-Ups unless its naptime, bedtime or you have to be out and about (for an extended period of time). Kids are smart. They learn pretty quickly that pull ups are not going to make a mess like underwear and I think that slows their progress down and possibly confuses them.
I'm with ya on using the seat that fits on the toilet! I think that potty chairs are gross and unsanitary. Plus, I know of too many people who have let their little one drag the chair all over the house and that makes me gag. All potty business should be done in the bathroom.
I potty trained 2 boys that potty trained eventually...I let them go outside and pee...they love it. Yes I said love, 10 years later.
I think you are doing it perfect. Keep it a positive experience and it will go great. I had a friend potty training the same time I was. She would get mad at him when he had an accident and stick a hose down his pants...in the winter time. He was almost impossible to potty train took 4 or 5 years. (No we're not friends anymore)
Have a great weekend Zanders Mom!
Yeah i would definetly encourage the potty. Calo was 4. DID YOU HEAR ME 4 before he was potty trained. Jacob potty trained himself pretty much like Z right after he turned 2. Oh but not Calob he was stubborn and not gonna do it. But finally we got it done.
Good Luck!
My son the behavior therapist...
asked me how to potty train the grandson. HA!
He is potty trained now...and it went smoothly...pick a day when it's just the two of you...and announce he is a big boy and all day you practice! I used M&M's put it sounds like he may not need the reward system in the form of candy but just praise and clapping! I would not get the thing that sits on the toilet..I would just let him do what he's doing. He might not like it and it appears like this is something that deos work. I say don't fix what isn't broken!
You are so lucky!! Both my daughters were a struggle every step of the way!!
Ohhh I so don't miss those days!! hahaha! Good luck and it sounds like it's going great!
As a father of 11, 7 boys, the easiest way, put a ping pong ball in the toilet. It doesn't flush away and the boys love aiming at it, there was never any little accidents on the floor. Outside like Mamahut said was also a great option.

Wow--good for him! I say if he's interested let him do it! Pickle is nowhere close to being poty trained--Z is waaay ahead!!
Okay is such a versatile word!
Here's to the potty training! Esme loves wiping herself and flushing, but hasn't really figured out how to go yet... I'm hoping she trains herself, too!
I think letting him go at his own pace is a good idea! Good luck!
