The cordless phone in my house is a bit troublesome to use. The buttons stick on it, so you have to press them really hard. And even then, it sometimes causes you to push one button twice and then you have to start over.
This makes it really frustrating when phoning in votes on reality shows....but I deal with it!
Until last Friday.
My mom was at my house watching Zander while I was at work. She was calling a local company for my Dad to get their hours. The company's # started with 918.....
Can you see where I'm going with this yet?
Yep, she accidently dialed 911.
She hung up immediately thinking that it didn't go through. But it did - and to the police, it looked like a hangup.
The police showed up in less than a couple of minutes to make sure all was good at the house.
My mom apologized over and over to the officer. He was really nice about it actually. He took her name and social security number, I guess to see if she had a record?
Geez, she's so squeaky clean he may not even find her in their system at all.
Anyway, I'm sure that was all very exciting for her, my dad and Zander.
My dad did request that I buy a new phone so we don't continue pranking the police....which I did!
Lesson learned!
Crisis averted!
Now I know there is a good response time in the area should I ever require their assistance!
Good to know!

Both of my kids have done this although it wasn't due to sticky buttons, but rather mischivious minds...
OMGosh! LOL That is too funny. Your poor mom!
I'm glad you picked up a new phone!
My kids are always playing with the phone, and I worry that this is going to happen.
I think it is strange that they took her name and SS number.
Also, I made an Elmo cake for Izzy birthday because I was inspired by your Blue's Clue's cake. You're my hero!
OMG--yopur poor mom! I'm sure she was so embarrassed!
When Teddy was about 3 or 4 he called 911 to report us for asking him to clean up his toys!
Great test of the system! I've never thought of the hangup issue - I guess one should wait and inform the dispatcher that there is no emergency, huh?
Great lesson and it is good to know that if there were a crisis, you do have support.
So funny....now you have a story to share each year at family get-togethers!!
dude!!! Why didn't you tell me!! GRRRR!! We just switched over our home line for a cell line.. I would have given you ours!
When my boys were little, they managed to call 911 by accident. And I didn't know it. And the police came by to check it out.
I wonder how many false alarms they get daily?!!
Your poor mom. My old phone did that, but it was the 9's and 3's...it would drive you crazy in a matter of minutes.
Good response time, inded! LOL!
Maybe Santa will buy you a new phone for Xmas? Hope that EMT doesn't use Mommy's SS# for untoward purposes! What did Zander think of the fire truck/ambulance? Boys just LOVE stuff like that, as you well know.
