I'm going to get it off my chest.
I know I turn people off from my blog when I start talking politics.....so if this speaks to you....maybe you should come back tomorrow...
Here goes....
I cannot believe all of the crap I have been reading on blogs and FB from people....including my own family members...who are supposed to be Christians!!! Un-freaking-believable!
First of all, let me start by saying this....and please read carefully because I really feel this is important for some Christians to realize -
JESUS IS NOT A REPUBLICAN!!!!
You see...He is above all this party system nonsense.....he isn't choosing a side. So, for you to conclude that I am a heathen for voting for a Democrat...
I take extreme offense to that!
(by saying Christians only vote for Republicans, one can assume by process of elimination since I voted Democrat I am then either of another religion or no religion at all - aka heathen)
As a former soldier (I know I keep saying that, but damn, I took an oath to defend this country and that oath still means a lot to me) and a Christian.....I made a choice....a choice based on my belief of what was best for me and for my son and for this country. It was not based on a single issue, because to me voting based on one issue when there are soooo many things that need to be addressed...well, that is just plain silly to me. There I said it....
voting solely on the issue of abortion is silly.
Also, let me stress this....Pro-Choice is not the same as Pro-Abortion. I am a single mom and there was never really a choice necessary for me...I was always keeping Zander. I know my life is more blessed with him in it than it ever was or ever could be without him. But I have not walked in the shoes of other women who do not have the same love and support that I have.
Secondly I read on someone else's blog where Pres. Obama fumbled the oath.
No, no he did not.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. fumbled it and it caught Pres. Obama off guard. He stopped so Mr. Roberts could correct himself. But I understand that maybe you never heard that explained on Hannity, Limbaugh or Fox News or wherever you get your news....because it was all over MSNBC and CNN. This seems like such a petty issue with all the crises our nation is facing in the near future..but I still felt compelled to address it.
Lastly, I saw this button being passed around - which really is the source of what set me off on this rant. Well, to be honest I guess its been building - so before I have an aneurysm I had to let this out (if you are reading this and now wishing I were having an aneurysm - let me stress how that isn't very Christian-like either).
The button said "I promise to treat Obama with the same amount of respect as the Left gave to George Bush over the last eight years."
Wow....there is a lot I would like to address with that statement. First of all, it kind of disrespects Pres. Obama by calling him "Obama" if you are going to address the other guy as George Bush.
Next, there were many reasons for the Left to have issue with Pres. Bush. He was not a uniter, he was indeed a divider. The way his presidency even began was mired in controversy since he wasn't actually 'elected' (yeah, I said it, I still take issue with that.....where did all of those missing, impregnated, hanging chad ballots go in old Jeb's state?)
But, after 911, when the country came together and he swore we would bring those to justice that did this - well, I liked him that day. I agreed with him and I wanted to believe him. But he strayed from that and suddenly of these other little nasty facts about how he wanted to take down Saddam Hussein long before he ever even became President dirtied the waters. It made 911 seem almost convenient in a smarmy kind of way.
There are all kinds of things like censoring the press in those early years. Remember when they had to submit questions ahead of time and could not deviate from those questions once they were approved? Where are those weapons of mass destruction? Where is Osama Bin Laden? Why is it that he gave himself the right to line item veto anything that came across his desk? Why did the rich get tax cuts? Why did our gas go so high? (seems fishy since he himself is an oil man) Why did he not read all memos - could 911 have been prevented had his administration taken that more seriously? Why are all of our jobs going overseas? Why did he think holding a press conference celebrating John McCain's birthday with cake while people in New Orleans were fleeing from their homes was a good idea?
Even during his last press conference he would not take ownership for one single thing that went wrong. Basically he said "at least he made the hard decisions". Well, that was his job! And he is responsible for those decisions - especially since he didn't listen to the will of the American people.
This isn't a child's t-ball game - not everyone get a prize because they simply showed up!
Even if they were all Karl Rove's ideas and Dick Cheney's actions...then Pres. Bush is still responsible because of his inaction. He was the President dammit!
I know there are many other instances where Pres. Bush burned bridges....but its late and I've got a screaming headache and I'm typing angry right now....so I feel I mentioned plenty of them.
I personally hated his attitude. The government is supposed to be "of the people, by the people for the people". He ran it as a dictatorship. He made everything top secret siting basically that he was above the law. Our elected officials should be held accountable for the things they do....otherwise that makes America no better than a Communist State.
I also hated the fact that he was a poor speaker. I know it seems petty - but the American President is the most power position in the world. Yes, I feel the person in charge should have good speaking skills. Period.
And torture. He and VP Cheney spit all over the Geneva Convention. That puts our soldiers at a greater risk. If we torture and its legal, then other countries can do it too.
Now, people are free to wear that button and pass it around - heck, make it a t-shirt and wear it proudly if you want. You can. Because our 1st Amendment says you can. Oh, by the way, that is the same 1st Amendment that Pres. Bush took a crap on too! But, Pres. Obama says it stays....because our forefathers said the Constitution is what America is based on - and we are getting back to the basics.
So, if you want to hate this president for things he hasn't even done yet and wish him ill....and wish the country ill (which I don't even begin to understand).....then so be it. But if you are doing this...and calling yourself a Christian......then please look in the dictionary and see the word "hypocrite".....you will probably find your picture there snarling back at you.
I will end with something more positive and I will not address this issue again. I'm moving on. And so when I see anything more on this subject that starts making my blood boil...I will remember this:
"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
Psalm 46:10

I am sorry you are upset! I LOVE YOU and share all of your feelings...well except the headache! I have one but it isn't from righteous indignation but rather sugar withdrawal!
Thses people who have these stickers don't realize that there are many who don't share their opinions...his approval rating was below all other Presidents including my beloved Jimmy Carter!
Christians actually disparage Jimmy Carter...truly an example of a good Christian man!
We, Christians aren't very good at being Christians!
God is in control...sending love to you!
I agree with you. It bothers me that somehow the "right" and the republican's somehow have the lock on Jesus. Yeah... like he can be reduced to that? I think not.
I don't know what I am anymore. There just too much on BOTH sides I can't abide by. I'm thinking of heading out to sea to find a deserted island and setting up my own benevolent dictatorship. Wanna join me?
In regards to the button. Yeah.. It doesn't really float my boat. And I think it's probably a little narrow minded and petty. But, as you said, the beauty of living in the United States is that we get to (for the most part) put whatever buttons we want on our blogs. And while I don't agree with people's buttons, I will defend their right to have them. As I know you do too.
I'm sorry this has you upset. I'm glad you expressed your thoughts on your blog... it's important to do that I think....
I have so much to say about this I would use up all your comment space if I even started.
Ok, I'll start just a little.
Jesus is not a republican.
Whats so hard to understand about that
I am so familiar with this argument, you have no idea, or that if.... never mind
Fox news refers to President Obama as "Mr.Obama"
Thats all I can say about that without loosing my mind and it's to early on a Monday for that to happen.
I want to officially add Rush to my punch in the mouth list.
I am having a bit of a bloggy blah day. I hope you don't mind if I link to this post instead of writing a whole lotta nothing because you had a whole lotta GREAT something to say.
I read a blog today that had my blood boiling too. Within the first paragraph it said:
"You cannot assume that since we are changing it is for good and for the betterment of our nation. In fact, I believe the change we’re undergoing is going to destroy our country."
This was written on the day of President Obama's Inauguration.
Anywhoo, thanks for saying what so many of us out here are thinking too!
You go girl! I am so glad that you put it all out there! You deserve a great big pat on the back!
Peace:0)
Karla: Don't forget that you put yourself in the line of fire to defend the right of these ignorant folks to say some of these hateful things. Also remember...when mean people are down, they just get meaner. And their nastiness is rooted in ignorance, so there...we've come full circle. The other thing you have to remember is that John McCain is back to his "normal" self now. No more ranting and he's talking about working "across the aisle" again...which has to drive the Bush-ites crazy. Hope you feel better, doll...but I do have a prescription for your ills:
Uncle Lynn decided to join the Bloggy Giveaway Carnival, so we're having an impromptu Pop'rs Giveaway this week!
I feel the EXACT same way. Personally, I think people who are already hoping that Obama fails are...
a. racist
or
b. ignorant
The Bush administration used fear tactics to start a war and take away our civil liberties. We had REASONS to hate Bush. These people haven't given Obama the chance to prove himself yet.
Abortion is such a controversial issue, but I am glad that Obama supports a woman's right to chose. Abortions will happen, regardless of the law. The least we can do is educate people and provide them with safe options.
I agree with you on the button - that would annoy. Even though I tend to vote Republican - I didn't vote this last election for a reason... And it annoys me when people make an issue of my NOT voting. I love the text you ended the post with.
(AV hands Karla an asprin) there are moments when you need one.
Well said, boy you sure got fired up, steam was comin' out the back of my monitor - the boss thought I was smokin' in the office.
I am not a great fan of American politics, but boy, what you done said, you done said great.
Well done Karla.
Made such a good read, I was just a tad disaapointed when you lost that head of steam.
Oh, and a bit of politics never hurt anybody, bit like putting one whole brusselsprout on a kid's plate.

*w00t*! I can see the steam pouring out of your ears right now; it's coming right out of the computer speakers! I really think the "anti's" have 2 reasons for their antics: ignorance & jealousy. It's not like it was a very close election, and even though they unloaded all they had on Obama, nothing stuck. They are a party of old, stale ideas, who never really recovered from Reagan's glory days. Have we had a decent repub prez since then? And the case could be made that although Reagan was popular, his policies are the reason we're in the economic and diplomatic pickles we're in today. Any policymaker worth his salt will tell you that it takes a good 2 decades for presidential actions-especially economic ones-to sink in and really take effect in this really large & complicated country of ours.
Reagan's the one who convinced Congress to give all the expensive programs back to the states to manage and pay for; he's the one who started us on the path to Afghanistan and Iraq. Reagan's cronies on Capitol Hill are the ones who funded the Afghan Rebels and armed them to the teeth; they, of course, became the Taliban. And Reagan's Middle East policies have brought us nothing but grief in the last 20 years or so. The case could be made that Reagan and his policies planted the seeds for 9-11. And any fascist who wants to argue that with me can just bring it on. I LIVED thru 9-11, just 10 miles from the Pentagon, with a whole classroom of kids whose parents worked at the Pentagon. Talk about a terrifying & sad day. I still don't think I'm over it!
And remember-Bush had a lot of old, washed-up Reaganites in his camp-Rumsfeld (failed Iraq policy) & Cheney (We call him Dr. Death)come to mind.
So, "it's water off a duck's back," as my Nana used to say. Bush is an idiot. We REAL Texans disowned him a long time ago! Ignore the ignoramuses. But I'd really love to see some of the vitriol they are spewing. I guess I haven't been around the Blogosphere much recently...can you e-mail me some links?
Take care, Karla, and thanks for the righteous rant!
Sing it, sister!
****STANDING OVATION******
Over from Aubrey's blog! I, too have been so frustrated with some blogs and the e-mails I have received.
My husband and I got so much crap from family and our small bible study group for supporting President Obama. Can you believe that? Our bible study group!! I would just keep my mouth shut while they put him down and said all kinds of racial hateful stupid things about him. It finally got to me one evening and I blew up on all of them!!
Republicans are mad 'cause they are no longer top dogs....they are trying everything to make Pres. Obama look bad...from the start they sent out e-mails about some ball he didn't attend. Argggg....
now I'm pissed again!!!
I'll pray for them all.
Way to speak your piece! I'm not very vocal on politics. No, I did not vote for Pres.Obama, but I do know that we should absolutely respect him. I pray he does well while he's in office. I really hope there's some change coming, and I know it's not going to be easy for him. I also pray that the ignorance and hate of people would dissolve. Of course we know that will never happen.
I'm thoroughly impressed that you stated your opinion as well as you did. Amen sister!
*stopped by from Fam Five
Wow! Great post. Frankly, I'm very surprised that no one has stopped by to preach the gospel to your heathen soul. ;) j/k
I'm in complete agreement with everything you have said. I don't even know where to start.
I'm glad to see another 'liberal' (ooh, isn't that a dirty word?) out here. Haha!
Stopping by from Aubrey's blog
I found you from Aubrey's blog, and I love this post.
My MIL called my husband on Saturday to pick a fight on a whole host of subjects, but one of her things was how awful Obama is.
She cannot believe my husband would support such a man.
such a man? What kind of man is that? a confident one with the best interest of the country in mind? A family man?
Of course not...she meant a Muslim (and he isnt, but who cares if he is!!) and a black man, who was born in Kenya (?what?!). ummm yeah, whatever lady.
This came after a little speech she gave my husband about being raised to respect the president....
UM HYPOCRITE MUCH?
Anyway, thanks for writing this, I loved it!
I also found you through Aubrey, and I think you hit the nail on the head here!
Thank you for saying what we have all been thinking... Great post!
Wow - this is an intelligent & very well read post. Thanks for posting this. I agree with so much of what you said & it's about time someone said the things that I thank many, many people are feeling.
I found you through Aubrey, too. I'm glad she directed me here.
Woot Woot.. Great post. OK I haven't seen any of these posts/buttons ... I wonder if i am running in with a bad crowd?
first, I want to say that its totally obvious that you never liked W. its not like you used to like him and he made some decisions that you didnt agree with, and THEN you decided that you didnt like him. you never gave him a chance.
second, of course Jesus wasnt a Republican. anyone who says that is just being silly. Jesus wasnt a Democrat or an Independent, either.
your post is too long for me to address every point, so let me just pick a few...
"where are those weapons of mass destruction" - while we might never know if there were any, none were ever found. that does not change the fact that MOST EVERY INTELLIGENCE AGENCY BELIEVED that there were weapons of mass destruction. there was a good cause to go in and look for them. just because we were wrong doesnt change the fact that we didnt know it.
"why did our gas go so high" - supply and demand. its very simple. the US doesnt own enough oil reserves/supply to effect the market.
"why are all of our jobs going overseas" - because its cheaper to pay those people. theres no huge conspiracy. its GOOD for the market. have you ever read John Stossel? he isnt a Republican, so you dont have to beware his books.
as for that button thing, I agree, it is in bad taste. I havent seen one, nor do I know anyone who has, but I can understand the sentiment behind it. we love W, and we believe that he did right by his country. its sucks that the cool thing was to bash him. I feel like giving the same treatment, because those people dished it out, but they cant take it. that really doesnt have anything to do with Obama, that has to do with the Bush Bashers.
I dont wish Obama ill and I certainly dont wish my country ill. I just disagree with you. I do know some "Christian" people who are close to what you describe, but I know far more "open-minded" Democrats that spew nothing but hatred.
This is an older post but I had to respond!
You totally took the words out of my mouth.
And to the above post. It was also proven by those intellegence agencies that even had Iraq has WMD they would have never reached America. They were never a threat to us, never threatened us and had never killed any American until former Pres Bush send our troops there illegaly.
I have too much to say to write in just your comments, but I want to say a couple things.
1. You try and run the most diverse, political and controversial nation, and then we can all criticize everything you did bad, and we won't glorify you for anything you've done right.
2. If you say you're a Christian, then you probably read the Bible, and you should realize that everything that is happening with Obama is mentioned in Revelations. Yes, the end of the earth is looming regardless, but there are way too many facts that relate our new President with the anti-Christ.
3. What about Guantanamo Bay? Don't you think a competent leader should find a home for all these terrorists BEFORE he decides to close their prison? Or perhaps he is on their side and doesn't care about the welfare of our nation.
4. How about the time President Obama referred to his religion as "Muslim?" I don't know about you, but I've never made a Freudian slip mistaking my religion with that of a highly controversial religion.
Doesn't seem to me he's off to a good start.
Anonymous...if you weren't a coward you wouldn't be anonymous. Just saying....
And frankly, if he isn't your president, then don't worry about it. I wasn't referring to you anyway.
to Marshmallow,
the point is that IF Iraq had WMD, they were violating the law. W, and EVERYONE ELSE, believed that they possessed such weapons. possessing them is a threat to us. thats why people are upset about N Korea...
also, W didnt sent troops illegally. Congress VOTED on it... like Hilary Clinton and Joe Biden... so if W is to be flogged, why arent they, too? because we can understand that they made the BEST decision that they could. I believe that with all of my heart. W, Hilary Clinton, and Joe Biden were looking out for MY best interests. and I, for one, thank them all. Im glad that I dont have to be up there making the tough choices. I elected them to do that because I trust them.
Stumbled across this... and just wanted to say "way to go!" Love this post!
