According to the St. Louis Zoo, they are America's #1 zoo. I don't know if that is true or not, as I haven't been to any other zoos in America. But they are pretty darn cool. You can't beat a day at the zoo with FREE ADMISSION.
I was in London a few years ago and went to their zoo. I paid 11 Euros to get in (that was back when 1 USD = 1 Euro ...or pretty darn close any way). It was a HUGE disappointment. It was no bigger and less better than a petting zoo at a carnival here. The British need to come to St. Louis and see our zoo. I don't wanna brag....but....yeah I do!
Some of the highlights were seeing our new baby giraffe. Isn't he cute?
Yeah, he looks pretty big there eating off of that tree....but not when you see him with mommy and daddy.
Next is the king of the jungle. As I stood looking over the rocks at him, watching him pace back and forth, a man walked by me and said "He doesn't look so impressive to me". Not impressive? Well, he is a heck of a lot bigger than my kitty cats. Maybe that man should have gotten in the pen with the lion.
Look at the big red ball in the pen with him. I have a white one like that at home I don't use nearly often enough. Maybe thats how he keeps in such good shape...a few crunches....
Lastly, I wanted to display St. Louis' very own Hippie Camel. Okay, so this is just what we called him. But look at his humps...his humps...his lovely hippie bumps. He could use a good grooming, huh? Maybe they molt....I don't know....I'm not a camel expert.
I took other pictures but not as many as I normally do. I had to make sure Z stayed in his stroller and that he had enough snacks, etc.....
All was good until my friend, Kris, and I decided to take the boys on the train.
I thought Z would love it. Now granted, it was about noon by this time and that is Z's naptime. I just wanted to do a quick train ride then we were gonna go. Let me tell you how that was the LONGEST train ride ever.
Z was great....at first. He sat next to me because he is such a big boy and didn't want to sit on my lap. Well, after a couple minutes he wanted to move around...well, you can't do that with the train moving.
So, I was actually fighting with him to restrain him. He then proceeded to head butt me a few times....causing me to bite my tongue...HARD! I mean I literally bit my tongue....not the figure of speech where you are trying not to say something. I'd had ENOUGH then! I think I saw stars.
My friend is sitting behind me with her husband and son (oh yeah, their son just fell asleep).
Kris: "Do you think a snack would help?"
Me: "No, I need duct tape."
We FINALLY get off the train and I strap him back into his stroller. He wants a ba-ba (bottle). All I have are sippy cups. Well, then he has a TOTAL meltdown. He is crying and screaming, and bucking and turning all kinds of red.
I walk as fast as I can back to the car, where thank you Jesus, I have a bottle in a cooler waiting for him.
He fell asleep in the car and took a 3 hour nap....I took a nap too once we got home.
I talked to my mom later that night and she says "Your father and I would like to go to the zoo with you and Zander soon. Your father hasn't been in years."
Yippee.....can't wait......(that was me being sarcastic)

Hahaha..Duct tape! I didn't hear that when we were on the train. Damn lady talking over the intercom.
The rest of the trip was delightful. I can't wait to go back for a lot shorter trip the next time. 4 hours was just too much.
Our Zoo here in Birmingham is not all that great. But when I go home to my Dad's in Jacksonville Florida the Zoo there rocks. And they have that same Monkey statue. I will take a picture when we go in the next couple of weeks.
Sorry Zander didn't like train much. Maybe next time when the Grandparents go he can give them a fit. LOL
Oh no! I hate tantruming toddlers. At least he calmed down and took a THREE hour nap. Porgie is on a nap strike right now, and Izzy is the king of 20 minutes catnaps. I don't think I've EVER seen a 3 hour nap! SERIOUSLY.
That zoo sounds like so much fun!! Is it free everyday? I am jealous. The Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake is small and costs a lot!!
The zoo here in Denver is okay, but taking little kids is just no fun. They get hot and tired and it's more trouble than it's worth. You're not alone, momma.
Hi Sherry,
YES, St. Louis zoo has free admission everyday! They are open 363 days a year. Certain things have small fees to enter like the children's zoo (where little ones can pet different animals and such) and the train. They function mainly off of donations and they have fun parties to raise money (ex: Boo at the Zoo in October). We're pretty lucky I think!
HI I hoped over from Koris site and I first thought you were in Jacksonville when I saw the Statue!
Yeah I am looking in my pics right now to see If I have a pic of that! Kori is right.....that is the same as in Jacksonville ZOO!
oh my that giraffe baby is freakin adorable!!! i just wanna squeeze him!!! and i love the blog look!! too cute
