It has been almost 5 years since I bought this house we live in today. You were not even a figment of my imagination at the time. However, as I scrubbed the sellers' children's crayon marks off of EVERY wall in the house, including the inside of EVERY closet, I swore if I ever had children I would not allow crayons in my house. Yep, House Rule #2. (House Rule #1: No wallpaper.) Oh, your Grandma laughed. Your Aunt Kim mocked me. Then you, my son....oh, how you break down my walls of resistance. I got you crayons, coloring books, drawing paper, writing tablets.....however, I constantly repeat my mantra "Keep the crayon on the paper. Paper only!" until you must hear this repeatedly in your sleep.
Coloring....you enjoy it so much. Yes, you are not quite 2 yet so you still peel the paper off the crayons. You sometimes break them. You sometimes take a bite, as if to see if it still tastes as awful as it did the previous time you took a bite. You sometimes stick them in your ears...reminding me a little of Herman Munster. But you do spend a lot of time coloring too. Who am I to snuff out your creativity? So, I continue to let you have the crayons, even though I get stuck picking up the crayon paper and tiny bitten chunks you have spit back out.
Since you are a bit destructive, and I am a bit disorganized, I wanted to save some of your first pieces of art to show you when you are older. I decided the best way to show this to you was through pictures....as they are the only things I can seem to keep track of fairly well.
Here are some of your first creations:
Here you chose wonderful bright colors for one of your coloring book pages

You actually prefer to color on spiral notebook paper....it is your paper of choice.

Here you seemed to have chosen red and green Christmasy colors.
This one is my personal favorite, done on plain white drawing paper. I like the colors you have chosen for this masterpiece as well...they go well together.

I love to watch you color - you look so serious and then you smile really big when you are done with a picture. I guess it turned out exactly as you planned for it to.
Just please....remember to color on paper only!
Mommy loves you!

Isn't it funny what OUR children will not do? My kids are turning out to be everything I had hoped they wouldn't be. But they are normal, I think.
What a little artist! It's cool that you are documenting his early art. I love looking back at my kids' stuff from when they first started creating art. Cute!
I remember Ned doing art like that....all over my wall one time! Luckily it was washable crayons and the look on his face was priceless when he was caught.
Go get some Chalkboard paint and paint a wall or door for that matter in Z's room. That way he can draw on the wall with chalk and have a glorious time then erase and start all over. I am thinking about doing a block of chalkboard paint in my kitchen and then framing it out with some decorative trim. So that way I can write things down for the boys to do or a list for groceries or just for doodling.
Porgie is obsessed with crayons too. We only buy the washable kind, but she always uses paper anyways.
Your little guy is quite the artist!
I am so with you! Crayons on the PAPER ONLY!
Fancy artwork there.
Our rule is crayons on paper only --- but somehow somebody got some crayon on the wall.....
What a little artist you have!
Looks like he's getting the hang of complimetary colors!
To get crayon off walls: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! It really is magic!!
He is quite the artist.
It seems we always give in to the little things like crayons etc.
Documenting his work is a very good idea.
Precious little Picaso!
Congratulations on being the feature today!
