Story Of A Little Rocking Chair - Fx4

When my older sister was a baby, my Dad got a little rocking chair from one of their neighbors. They were going to throw it out in the trash because one of the rockers was broken. My Dad took it to my Grandpa's farm where he had the rocker fixed and stained a dark color. (Unfortunately, I can't find a picture of it from when we were kids).

That chair lasted through my sister -Kim, myself, my niece - Nikki and then was broken again by my nephew - Joey.

So to make my sister happy, my BIL - John made a new rocker for the chair and sanded it so that he could refinish it for her. It remained in its unfinished state for the last few years.

I got into a brief 'paint mode' for awhile so I decided I would finish the chair. When I got it, it looked like this:

Dara, Nikki's daughter, had gotten marker all over it. Cuz that's how she rolls.

How does this gray look? Pretty, no?

I'm just kidding....that's just the primer.

This is what it looks like now.

Zander loved it! But, alas, its not his.

Its hers. And she loves it too!!!

So, that is how you give a 40+ year old rocking chair new life!

As always, if you'd like to participate in this week's Friday Foto Finish Fiesta, or if you just want to look at more pictures, head on over to Candid Carrie's and check it out!

How adorable!! There is a bassinett (sp?) that has been in my mom's family forever. She is the youngest of 5 kids (she's 63) and it was used for her and all her siblings, it was used for all of their kids including my brothers and I. My brother used it and I used it for our kids too. It was pretty cool :)

It looks great! I love the red color. My mom has a similar chair from when she was a kid. It was passed down to me but it still in her attic. I'll bet my kids would love it if I fixed it up.

Great job!

My FIL is very handy and did the exact same thing to my MIL's old rocking chair. The grandkids fight over who gets to sit in it when they are over there:-)

I love your little rocking chair. I have two of my rocking chairs from childhood. One I repainted like you did. The other I left the same. For now, they hold my collection of stuffed animals.

I've got a midget chair - not rocking - it holds my book, glass of wine and towel for when I have my leisurely baths. I'm inspired to give it a make over. Thanks for that!

I so want to get myself a rocking chair. I saw one, recently, at one of my local op shops . Sadly it was gone when I went back a couple of hours later..
