Sweet Nothings

This was yet again a busy weekend. Unfortunately this was not all fun and games, but more on that another day.
Sunday at church the Pastor's sermon was based on what we humans are wired for. For example; cheetas are wired to run fast, the swallows of San Juan Capistrano are wired to return from somewhere in Argentina every spring and then back again in the fall, hummingbirds are wired to be able to hover in order to get nectar, etc. What are humans wired for? Answer: To worship.
But that is not really what my post is about. He was giving an analogy using the word "behold". He said that we see things....but somedays a veil is lifted and then we really SEE things. To behold something is to really see it clearly.
The analogy he used was how a son often takes on characteristics and actions of his father. He said it was because children are so perceptive and that the child had really "beheld" his father. He said something like "how a daughter will set the table because she has seen the way her mother does it......or how a son will want to fix something because he has seen his father do it".
So, of course I was sitting in church feeling guilty again because I don't know if Zander will ever behold his father and because I still don't know how I really feel about that.
Now, I don't know if my mother can read my mind or if she was perceptive and "beheld" my expression. But, she leaned over and whispered to me, "I think Zander would rather set the table anyway.".
I smiled, and for now, the guilt went away.

I also wanted to post lyrics to a song we sometimes sing in church.....it just touched me a little bit more than usual this weekend:
This Is My Father's World
This is my Father's world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father's world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; His hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father's world, the birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker's praise.
This is my Father's world: He shines in all that's fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass; He speaks to me everywhere.
This is my Father's world. O let me ne'er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father's world: why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring! God reigns; let the earth be glad!

Karla,
I haven't read your blog long enough to know the circumstances surrounding your concerns...but your Father does and he will make a way for you and Zander that is the right way for Zander and you. Zander's Heavenly father is beholding him and rejoicing in every milestone!

Oh aren't those the moments? I've had many of those. Bless your mom's heart - what a sweet thing to say.

I LOVE that song - Amy Grant did a version of it on her Legacy cd... I just LOVE it!

Ned spends so much time with me that he does pick up on things I do and say, but I would much rather have it that way than learning from his dad. Don't feel guilty or sad because Z isn't around his dad because I know when he is older, he will be grateful that he was around you so much.

And sometimes my life passes by in front of me so fast that I don't "behold" anything, but every now and then something happens to make me stop and appreciate this beautiful (although crazy and sometimes sad) world that we live in and thank our Lord for giving it to us.

Have a wonderful Monday!

Not that it will make you feel any better, but I do not know my father, and I think I turned out okay. And Zander has your father to look up to. Don't worry mama:)

LOL~Josh would rather set the table too!!!

They may not have their daddy's around, and that is very sad, but at least they have moms that know the Lord!!! And we can show that that they will ALWAYS have a Father that will be there for them NO MATTER what!!!

I love the song you posted~ it is so beautiful! Do you have any Praise Baby CD's, they have a amazing version of this!

I'm so glad my sons can watch and learn from their father how to belch at the dinner table and put double-sided tape on the cats' feet.

Seriously, this isn't 1840 when a boy had to learn manual labor skills from his father in order to get by. Boys now, just like girls, need to know how to love and respect themselves and others. And how to win baby photo contests. I think you've got Z pretty well covered. ;)

I think Lori pretty much covered what I was going to say. I grew up without a mom and I know how to cook and be a domestic goddess hahahahaha. Even if I would rather be outside with the guys and I'm not very lady like, but I am ok. And man do I love my Dad for taking such good care of me!!!

Ok, I voted for Z, he is definetly the cutest of them all.

Oh, I have something for you...come see me.
