God is Leaving me Clues....

So, Zander's 2nd birthday is coming up soon and the theme of his party is Blues Clues. I've been looking for a cake for quite some time and as of a couple of weeks ago hadn't come up with one yet.

Then, I was at a garage sale and found this:

For .50 cents!!!

Its like God was telling me, "Hey, make one yourself!"

Could I? I've never decorated a cake. How hard is it? I know its time consuming and I can be lazy.

I decided to make a "test" cake this past weekend to see if I could make a decent looking cake.

It took me hours....and I got hand cramps.....and my back hurt a lot by the time I finished.....but I think it turned out pretty good......

What'ya think?

It says "trick or treat" because I'm entering it in a dessert contest at work. We're having a fall fest celebration this week with games and contests so since I was making this anyway, I thought I would enter it....see what happens.

All in all...there are some things I need to do better and a couple of changes I want to make.....but I think his cake will turn out pretty great!
Oh...and on a side note, Zander has started to watch Blues Clues episodes with Steve!!!! Thank you, God!!!
And here is a little video of Z that cracks me up! I love the way he says"corn".....so I had him say it like 20 times.....

LOVE the cake and you did a GREAT job. I started doing those kind of cakes for The Ladies a couple years ago... it IS a lot of work, but I'm hoping it's something they'll look back on someday and remember the cakes mom made for their birthdays....

There is no way that is the first cake you've done. Are you kidding? It's awesome!

My @#$% speakers aren't working so I can't hear Z saying "corn", but the way he says it even looks cute! Can't wait till I get my speakers working so I can hear him say it!

Well, for your 1st cake... it looks pretty darn good! I've never made one like that, either. My MIL does cakes, so I've just let her do them for my girls' birthdays.

Oh, and the vid is cute! I would have done the same thing, to get him to say "corn" over and over...

You are the craftiest person! It looks awesome. We had a Blue's Clues cake too, but it was just a round cake and 4 cupcakes arranged to look like a paw print. Your cake is WAY cooler.

The cake looks great. And the video confirms that I could indeed eat Z up. I love the way he says corn, too.

The cake turned out great :)

I know what you mean about the hand cramp....I hosted a baby shower 10 yrs ago and mentioned to my friend that I found instructions on how to make a stork cake which of course she thought would be awesome. Forget the fact that I had never decorated a cake before in my life! It took me 10 hours just to ice the cake........maybe I'll do a post about it.

You could sell yours! Well not Z's but different ones.

He is way too cute with his popcorn.
