My public adjuster had told us it was at 12:30. Apparently he lied, as when my dad got there at 12:15....they were just finishing up. When I got there at 12:30....they were long gone.
Regardless, my dad said these 2 adjusters were very nice. One of the adjusters was for the building and the other was for the contents.
The building adjuster agreed with all of the findings that the contracter I had sent out came up with. That is $16,000 more than that the original insurance adjuster had estimated.
The contents adjuster said she had not looked at the list of contents I had sent to them yet....but that she wouldn't clean any of them...they need to be replaced. So.....she is going to look over our list and get back to us soon.
I believe they are to have their reports written and hopefully approved by end of next week...which still seems like a long time to me. But hey, I'm finally seeing some progress here.
So (keeping my fingers crossed) the cleaning and repairs should be able to start in the next couple of weeks.
The original adjuster, in my opinion, should be reprimanded. If for nothing else, for stupidity and bitchiness.
Here are some of the things she wanted to do...which is how insane and nitpicky she was being.
- She wanted to "clean the miniblinds". I buy the cheap ones at Walmart because not even I clean miniblinds. It would have cost more to clean them then to replace them. She apparently wanted to clean the mini blind in the dining room too - the one that had MELTED from the heat of the fire.
- She wanted to clean my carpet in the living room. My carpet was a really light beige.....so light it was basically off-white. Now it is black. There was a stain that resulted from something that occured during the fire that she insisted was there before the fire. I insisted it wasn't. And since I am the only one out of the 2 of us that had seen the carpet before...I really don't like being called a liar. It doesn't matter if I had stains all over it...it is now black and smoke filled...it needs to be replaced. Period.
- She wanted to clean the fire alarms. You know....the $10 ones you buy at the hardware store. The ones that had been infiltrated by thick black smoke.
- She wanted to clean the plastic cushy toilet seat from my bathroom....instead of paying the $7 to replace it....because that is how much one costs at Walmart.
- She wanted to clean my ceiling fans. You cannot clean the motors...so they would probably quit working in the next few months when the corrosion sets it from the smoke. So she basically just wanted to clean the blades.
- She didn't even take pictures or include in the damages the ceramic tile floor in my dining room....on the spot where the actual fire occurred. There is burning in the tile that can't be cleaned. So she wasn't going to replace it OR clean it. Just leave it be I guess.
Again....this is STATE FARM.
They might finally be coming through for me....but this is after 6 weeks and some hell raising.
I'm still going to write a letter of complaint to State Farm and copy the Better Business Bureau once this is all done. I haven't even written about the conversations I had with my insurance agent and his inept assitant yet.

Karla! My blood is boiling over! It's terrible that you haven't gotten your place fixed yet! I hope you took LOTS of pictures and will attach them with your letters!
I hope things start really moving now!
I wish I could say how surprised I am...but I am not! This country is ruled by insurance companies and their lobbyist and if they can't have their way... they hire lawyers who take the rest of your money!
I am sorry...it has been such a long time!
Karla, you are really most inconsiderate! You must be fully aware that insurance companies are there to make money and frivolous claims like yours go against that grain...
Insurance companies are a plague on the earth, a necessary evil. I have never known any insurance company to give up easily without squealing like a stuck pig until the end.
So far it sounds as though you might be winning, but it shouldn't be an uphill battle. Go ahead with your complaints, hope you get some satisfaction. Hell, I'd be suing the baskets for emotional damages as well.

I can't EVEN believe this!
Clean the blinds and shampoo the rugs?
You can't be serious...
Hate to say that I'm not really surprised! It just reminds me of The Rainmaker, of course...
How frustrating. I am surprised you haven't murdered someone yet.
OMG Karla--I'm sorry this has been such a nightmare. I hope it all works out for you--and soon!!
It's ridiculous!! I hope you get some satisfaction soon!
Oh I'm so glad to hear that you are finally getting somewhere.
I hate insurance companies I won't even go there.
I hop that in the end they take good care of you & little Zander.
Good Luck!
Yeesh... I sure hope this is resolved for you SOON!
