Ok, I'm warning you now....I'm going to talk about Anakin's surgery.....so if you can't handle information about a bladder.....just leave a comment saying "hi"...and don't read further....
Ok, so when the vet called me yesterday to say Anakin was ok.....she told me that if I had any doubts about doing the surgery now instead of waiting for awhile.....to stop it! Anakin had at least 6 stones....that much we could tell from the x-ray. Some were in the bladder.....some had gotten out into the urethra. The ones in the urethra were causing the problems. He would hunch over trying to pee and it took him a LONG time to go.
He didn't seem to be in a lot of pain...but if the stones suddenly moved and caused a blockage....he would have needed emergency surgery. My first pug had to go through this because we didn't know he had stones......so I didn't want to put Anakin through that.
So, after the vet got in there yesterday and could see what was going on.....all of the stones had moved into his urethra. The walls of his bladder had thickened and his little body was pushing extreme amounts of blood to his bladder to help it function as it was working overtime to try and push the urine out. Soooo.....that means we did the surgery just in time!
Its always nice to have confirmation you did the right thing. Some dogs can live with these stones for a long time without surgery....so......basically I'm very thankful I didn't wait.
Anyway.....my little pooter is back home. It might sound weird...but it is soooo nice to see him pee in a matter of seconds....like a dog normally should. No, I don't always watch him pee....but I will be monitoring him for awhile.
I had gated off the dining room and kitchen for him because for awhile he will be going to the bathroom quite often.....and there could be blood in it. I hate to limit him.....but seriously.......I just got new carpet in the living room and the hardwood floors redone in the bedrooms.....I'd like to keep them new for awhile. So I planned on being tough even though I knew he whine.
I say this as I type this from my bed.....which Anakin is laying at my feet now....on my new mattress. But, in my defense, he hasn't gone potty in the kitchen since I brought him home....I take him out often....and I have a mattress pad on my bed.
Have I talked about my new mattress yet? No? Ok, well I have the most AWESOME mattress EVER! At least the best one I've ever had.
It is a pillowtop memory foam mattress. Fancy smancy! My old mattress was at least 20 years old! No wonder I had back problems. I sleep all night now (when the cats don't wake me up...and that is another story). If I move, the whole mattress doesn't move so it doesn't wake up Zander......and vice versa (Yes, he's still in my bed....don't judge me).
Anyway, I ordered it online at overnightmattress.com. I was a little leerie about ordering it online.....but I got it the next day. No problems. I LOVE this mattress! If you check it out online....I got the PureBliss Bamboo Memory Foam Mattress.....and State Farm paid for it! Its the least they could do really! ;)
Ok, I'm just babbling a bit. Thought I would throw this post out there.
Have a good weekend! I'm staying close to home this weekend to cater to Anakin's every need...and maybe unpack some more boxes.
I know this post was uber exciting.....please try and control yourself!

Hi : )
Oh, poor Anakin! And poor you!! But the good news is that your little Pooter is on the mend, and State Farm paid for your mattress, correctamundo?
You are a good Momma...even to your four legged children...never doubt that!
